What is a Read-a-thon?

A Read-a-thon is a fun and rewarding program that helps students grow a love of reading by engaging them in a friendly reading competition. Students read their favorite books, keep track of the minutes spent reading every day - in class or at home - and submit their reading logs for prizes. Families will be sent information on how to sign up on the Read-a-thon website. They can track reading minutes and make donations via the website.

There will be prizes for signing up, reading minutes, and donations. We will deliver the smaller prizes during the Read-a-thon and save the larger prizes once it's over and the donations and minutes have been totaled.

What do I ask of teachers during the Read-a-thon?

1. Hand out the Read-a-thon sign-up information starting Monday.- You will find it in your mailboxes on Friday.
2. Track whole class reading minutes on the Read-a-thon website:

Go to https://www.read-a-thon.com/teachers/

- Log in using your Username & Secret Code provided on handouts

- Click Start A Reading Session to set a reading timer OR enter a timed session

3. Read and log your minutes starting March  17.
4. Encourage all your families to sign up! It's super quick and easy and EVERYONE can participate (and win prizes!).

5. Families will receive notification via School Messenger on Friday, March 7, and in the weekly update sent out on Sunday, March 9.

*** In addition to individual prizes there are two class prizes. The CLASS with $1000.00 in CLASS DONATIONS wins popsicles for the entire class and the CLASS with $1500.00 in CLASS DONATIONS wins popcorn and a movie for the entire class ***
